So for those who try to stick with Marriott hotels, there are not many options in Dublin; two to be precise. And they are a bit on the pricey side!
Booking
I booked the Westin Dublin a “category 7” at a rate of 300euro+tax which is not bad for a category 7.
Check-in
this is where things started not looking so good. First, status wasn’t acknowledged which is fine but not what you would expect from a cat 7 hotel. I asked if I can get an upgrade since I’m Platinum Premiere, and the front desk employee told me that she had upgraded me, so I thanked her and asked her if I can get a room on a higher floor but she told me “trust me, it’s a great room”. Nothing was explained in terms of amenities or what the hotel offered. After completing the check-in process, I looked for the elevator and went all the way up to the first floor 😉
The building
Great historic Georgian style building. The lobby and other facilities are in a great shape.
The room
my “upgrade” consisted of a room on the first floor even though in my profile I have high floors as a preference. The room was right next to the elevator. And in European standards it was on the smaller side. That being said, the queen bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom had a great standup shower. I had a window overlooking a lively street. The worst part for me was having the luxury of being on the first floor, next to the elevator, it all added up to the experience.
Location
Great location, across the street from Temple Bar, a very lively area with excellent cafes, restaurants, bars. It’s also walking distance to many attractions.
My POV – definitely not a 5 star hotel, maybe a 4! While the building itself and the location are good, the service leaves a lot to be desired. I’m not basing this on the fact that I was not upgraded but rather on the overall experience and service. In my opinion, you can find much better options in Dublin.
