If you are even in Milan and want a great place to stay, close to the Fashion district & the Duomo, consider Palazzo Matteotti, an autograph collection hotel under the Marriott umbrella.
Booking – booked two deluxe rooms using the Marriott app. Paid about 200euro a room.
Check-in – staff at the reception desk were great and because of my Platinum premiere status, they tried to get us an upgrade but the hotel was booked. We initially got 2 rooms; one on the first and one on the seventh. But few minutes after checking in into the first floor room, the reception desk found two rooms on the same floor and moved us to the 6th floor.
Rooms – both rooms were similar, very comfortable and per my request the reception sent a coffee machine to one of the rooms. One of the rooms had a large balcony, overlooking some residential buildings but you can see the top of the duomo from a distance. Bed was super comfy and the bathroom amenities were Cavalli. Take a look at some of the pics.
Hotel amenities – there’s no lounge in the hotel, but we had access to the pool and gym in the ground/basement level. The pool was great, quiet and relaxing. I also had a chance to use the steam room and sauna through the week.
Breakfast – probably the highlight of the stay was the breakfast! The staff were attentive. Our rate included breakfast and although none of us is big on breakfast, we really indulged throughout the week. Excellent pastries, cheeses, fresh juices, breads and much more. You can even order an omelet or crepes.
Bar / Lobby – we had few drinks & some dessert in the lobby – it was good, nothing crazy. The lobby wasn’t that lively… its definitely a more of a quiet hotel which is nice if that’s what you are looking for.
Rooftop – great place to grab a drink or a dinner. The views are probably some of the best in Milano. A lot of locals come for dinner. We tried the oysters and some light bites and it was okay/good.
Location – like said earlier, the location can’t be better. It’s on a quiet street, just next to the fashion district $$$$. About 10 min walk to the duomo and other touristic spots.
To sum it up – great hotel, excellent location, and would definitely stay there next summer!
